Home gyms combine a number of pieces of equipment for strength training exercises varied. They have different configurations that offer exercises for legs, arms, chest and back. You will usually be able to do a seated bench press, flies, a combo or row, leg extensions and curls. Some have a leg press. Some have pulley systems that allow a variety of exercises. Portable Equipment - includes everything from dumbbells to workout bench, stability balls, steps, mats, AB machines and more. If you can pick up and move, it fits into this category. The main advantage of portable exercise equipment is that you can bend it (if necessary) and store it when you're through with it. Some equipment, like stability balls and mats, is still small enough to be taken on a journey that makes portable equipment a popular choice for home fitness equipment.

Free Weight Accessories - This includes adjustable benches, power door barbells, dumbbells and plates (also called round weights). Although some of these things can be portable, they are all classified as heavy equipment, which often times are part of a large assembly. If the space you need for your home gym is small in size, weight lifting accessories are probably your best choice. You will be able to obtain a large driving force training with equipment that will test the maximum.

Multi-Gyms - There are several types of multi-gyms for home use. The first type is based on steel or composite strips and cords that create resistance. A second type is based on the weight stack, utilizes a cable and pulley mechanism and allows you to select the desired weight. The third type includes round weights that are placed by hand at the helm extensions. All are great options for a home gym. What you choose depends on the type of workout you are trying to achieve and how much space you have in your home.

Total Gyms - A total gym an adjustable bench and a sliding seat platform that increases the resistance according to your own body weight. While the total gym may require more space, you will incorporate more strength training exercises to your workout.
