Thessaloniki is located on the northern part of mainland Greece, the Gulf Thermaikos which is a major port in imports and exports. The city was founded in 316 BC and is the capital of Macedonia and the second large city in Greece after Athens.
WHY GO

When to Go
The best seasons to visit are spring, when it's sunny and warm and you can explore the area around the city as well, the summer when you can swim with magic sand beaches near the city, and the autumn, when the international exhibitions take place. In winter it is cold, sometimes below zero, but there is sun most of the time.

Move

However, if you want to see everything, you should walk. It is not difficult to follow a road one day and explore the inner part of the city on foot.

Best attractions MAJOR
The visitor should not fail to see the cycle of the White Tower, a remnant of the ancient city walls dating back to 1866, is now the characteristic symbol of the city. There are more laps around the city, but they are all flat except for two of them.
The Arch of Galerius is among the city, an imposing monument dating from the third century.
Ayios Dimitrios Church, downtown, attracts many people, tourists and residents. It was built in the 5th century and has great architectural value. In the catacombs dug under the church that have been the hiding place of early Christians at the time.
Hagia Sophia church, is also a building not to be missed.
