Special Olympics SwimmingMr. Rogers Windows takes the plunge for Special Olympics Virginia!

This year, Mr. Rogers of Mr. Rogers Windows Foundation will take the plunge into the frigid waters of Virginia Beach with 3,000 or more brave. Every winter for 17 years, a very cool fundraising event "has been raising money for Special Olympics Virginia. The Polar Plunge Winter Festival has put the "fun" back in fundraising by daring everyone to take a dip in the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean in support of Special Olympics Virginia. To date, the event raised a cool $ 4.7 million for the organization.

You do not have time to register for the challenge you chill the blood of this year, but you can watch Mr. Rogers "diving" for winter swimming on Saturday, February 6. Even if you do not want to catch a few waves yourself, you can encourage, donate , or participate in one of many festivities taking place on the beach, the party Friday night hosted at ice sculpture and a gigantic sand sculpture.

Special Olympics Virginia is indeed a very special organization. They offer programs year-round sports training and athletic competitions especially for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Serving nearly 10,000 special athletes in seven regional offices and 28 regional programs of Special Olympics Virginia is proudly part of a dynamic global movement, which is now in over 180 countries, representing over three million athletes in the world.

Using sport as a vehicle for social change, the goal of Special Olympics Virginia is to open hearts and minds of those changes with developmental disabilities. Their mission is to offer its participants exciting and competitive sporting opportunities that will enable them to develop and improve physical fitness and motor skills, and self-confidence and promote a positive self-image. And thanks to the help of wonderful volunteers-20, 000 in total and the generous support of partners around the state, these special athletes do not have to pay to achieve their dreams.
