Safety in the gym - Get your athletes at risk Are you setting yourself up for disaster by failing to take the following safety precautions when training athletes in the gym?
The fitness room in a gym can be a very dangerous place for most novice athletes entering the weight room for the first time. Often the ego prevents the young athlete to seek help and this is not where you want to learn from experience.
It belongs to the coach, trainer or gym staff to promote the safety of gymnastics and teach athletes how to properly use the equipment.
The best thing to do is book a one hour session with the staff gym and all of your athletes in the gym and pass all the safety issues, common errors and how each piece equipment is used. It will benefit the gym staff and facilitate their work in the future.
Rules of the gym should be posted at the entrance to the gym and should be clear for all to read. A copy of the photo should be rules placed in the membership package for people to read by themselves.
The following general rules:
Replace weight after use
Use a spotter
No food in the gym
No chewing gum
Must wear proper footwear, no sandals allowed!
Bring a towel to wipe the sweat of your own
No play "horse"
Drinks should be in a plastic bottle, no cups.
Wear a suit and no jeans, because they can tear the vinyl benches
Design stage:
Design of the expense of the gymnasium floor requires a lot of knowledge, experience and foresight. There are companies who have consultants who assist and advise new gyms when it comes to this material and where to put it in the gym. Limiting factors such as space and financial capital will also affect how your gym is set up. The floor space is extremely important that the ground has a beat when the weights are thrown on the floor. There are several materials rubber bumpers on the market today.
Free weights will be located in a separate area for universal machines. This area should contain the bench presses.
Another key point is to have all machines in for muscle / body parts worked. People often do leg extensions followed by leg curls or calf raises to group the machines together.
Technical:
All athletes must complete a short course on lifting technique. A 30-60 minute session early will prevent many injuries and problems in the future. I have seen many accidents in the gym, almost all of which could have been avoided.
One such occasion when I was a teenager and working in the gym with a friend and brother. My friend was using the leg press machine and pushed the representatives last year when he took his legs off the platform before putting the safety handles to prevent the press down on the athlete .
Well, the machine and a lot of weight is pinning down his legs. With none of us there to spot during this particular exercise, he was trapped. Fortunately we were able to push the press back up and there was no damage to his legs. My friend has continued to be ranked number one in the world for tennis and had a great career, however, it did not happen because of this misadventure gym.
Another common mistake is when athletes are loading and unloading of the bar on bench press. Some unload one side of the bar without realizing that the bar will raise if it is unbalanced because of excess weight on one side.
The bottom line is that athletes perform several exercises with only the bar and no weight. Then once a good technique has been implemented, continue adding small weights. Having the correct technique is of paramount importance.
I recommend the demonstration by the athlete.
